Through her Italian courses at Ohio State, Kiernan learned the importance of intercultural competency, which is an essential skill when exploring the various regions and people of Italy. Her family’s roots in Campania and Lazio has allowed her to see the beauty in regional diversity on the Peninsula, and that Italian, and Italian American, culture and society is not a monolith. Kiernan looks forward for La Prossima to celebrate the regional traditions that our Italian ancestors have passed down to us, but to also celebrate and learn more about modern Italian society and culture, and how these two greatly influence young Italian Americans today.
